The aim of Work Package 10 is the development of new uncemented, hypoallergenic, antibacterial orthopaedic implant materials and coatings on the basis of findings received in Work Package 02, Work Package 03 and Work Package 08. Firstly, the implant surface must allow direct, fast and long-lasting osseointegration to eliminate the need for bone cement usage. Secondly, the implants must be made of materials with low or no allergenic potential. And thirdly, the implant surface must be able to delay or prohibit bacteria adhesion and biofilm formation.
